I can’t recall whom I heard repeat that quote; but it felt right in this moment. Just the thought of the work Harriet Tubman has done -I am inspired. I believe one can’t rightfully explain an experience until he or she is able to summarize it in one sentence…. or place it in the form of a parable.
That reminds me, my Liberian born grandmother speaks in parable. I grew up hearing all kinds of stuff. I am sure many of you can relate; you know, that older relative who would chime in with a quirky statement at that very moment you didn’t think anyone was watching. My brothers and I found all the things she said funny, especially when it was aimed at the other sibling. Not that my grandmother was trying to be a comedian, it was just the words she choose evoke laughter in us. So, if you guys here me say things like, ” A dog can’t walk with man hands” (translated: that incident you mention isn’t the same thing) it isn’t my fault.
